Mom Problems #5

Ok.  I try to keep these mom problems light and funny.  Silly things that happen only when you become a mom.  But today, this problem is serious.  It's one I have been struggling with for a while.  I've tried different ways to deal with it, but they don't seem to be working.  It's fear.  Fear that something, sometime, somewhere will happen to Gunnar.

Now, I'm not talking about crazy, freak accidents that no one can control.  I'm talking about all the things the news bombards you with on a regular basis.  Kidnappings, murder, abuse, homelessness, hunger, and let's throw in ISIS too.  These things bothered me before I had a baby.  But now, hearing any story about something bad happening to a child, or a baby animal for that matter, makes me physically upset.  Like boarder line crying and hyperventilating.  It's really becoming a problem.  I have blocked a lot of things from my FB news feed, but things still slip in there.  I'm debating about getting rid of FB for a while.

I don't watch or read the news any more.  I don't even go to the Yahoo main site because there is bad news right in your face the second you get on there.  I have decided the only way to keep my sanity is to become ignorant.  But, if you know me, that is near impossible for me to accomplish.  I like to be well informed but it's becoming crippling to be so.  I am angry at our government for not doing a better job.  I am angry at other governments for not doing a better job.  I am mad that I can't fight to protect my family the way I would like.  I am mad that I can't fight to protect ALL the children EVERYWHERE the way I would like.

I know that the word needs to be spread about these things so that people can do something about it.  You can't change something if you don't know it needs to be changed.  I just can't seem to compartmentalize this horrible information in a way that doesn't eat at me.  A normal person would hear a terrible story, feel bad for maybe a day, lock that knowledge away and use it when they need to.  I hear a terrible story and I think about it for a week.  Its the last thing I see before I go to bed.  I think about how it could have been prevented.  I get angry that no one prevented it.  I get scared and angry that it will probably happen again.

This problem I have makes it difficult to enjoy the time I have with Gunnar.  I try to be in the moment, but what if something happens and I no longer have these moments with him? How can I protect him from the bad people in the world, but let let him grow to be a part of the world?  Children are so innocent.  My brain does not have the ability to understand how someone could ever hurt a child.  I wish people were better.  I will never understand how people can have the capacity for such greatness and such evil.

I pray that in the end, the bad people in the world will all answer for what they have done.  I do not know if God is vengeful, but I do hope there is justice.

Cheers.

Mom Hair

There were three things I promised my younger self I would NEVER do when I had kids:

1. Own a mini van
2. Wear mom jeans
3. Have mom hair

We do not own a mini van.  I believe everything can be accomplished by an SUV, specifically a Jeep.  And I do not own a pair of mom jeans, although I now understand the appeal.  And I'm still rocking my long locks.

I had no intention to cut my hair at all (despite warnings from an absolutely horrible pediatrician about it being a problem with Gunnar) until I saw this picture:

Haden Panettiere's haircut here has me seriously considering a major change, and a slide into mom hair territory.  Only problem, my hair is not as thick as hers, so it will never look like this.  But, it is so tempting...

And her outfit is cute too.

Cheers!

Mom Problems #3

Going to bed with dried sweet potatoes on your shoulder because you're just too damn tired to change.

Cheers.

Mom Problems #2

Your baby sleeps for over 8 straight hours for the first time.  You, on the other hand, do not because you wake up every hour or so to check and see if he's still alive (cuz there's no why he's going to keep on sleeping, right?!  There must be something wrong!).

Cheers.

Rocking yourself to sleep instead of the baby.

New Mommy Christmas List

Tis the season!  For all the new (and experienced) moms out there, here's my Christmas Wish List.  Maybe some of you want the same things...

1.  Eight hours of uninterrupted sleep.  Whoever gets me this will own me.

2. Self-washing bottles.  Anything to get back our evening.

3. Odorless dirty diapers.  I know, I might as well ask for a miracle.

4. And endless supply of burp clothes.  Gunnar Bear goes through so many when he's spitting up.

5. Eye Cream that really gets, and I mean really, gets rid of dark circles.

6. A couple months of frozen meals.  So I don't have to decide between sleep, eating or personal hygiene.

7. Dog walker.  Cuz my boys are being neglected and I feel bad for them.

8. Daycare at work.

9.  My pre-pregnancy body back.

10. Peace of mind

And now for the gifts that can actually be purchased.  You're welcome sister-moms! :)

1. Teething Necklace - I've seen these for a while, but I wasn't sold until Gunnar started putting everything in his mouth; my hair, my shirt, his bib...

This one is Nixi by Bumkins.  You can get different styles and colors.  You can even get a bracelet if that works better.

Target

2. Mani/ Pedi - My favorite place to get one is at an Aveda Salon.  If you have a school near you, they let you keep the nail polish.

3. PJs that work for nursing - I'm not nursing any more, but when I was, this was a pain.  I love these pjs from Victoria Secret.  Soft, comfy cute and practical. What more could you ask for?

The Sleepover Pajama

4.  Gym Membership - for a couple months at least and the time to actually go to the gym.  We all want our pre-baby body back ASAP, but finding the time to actually work out is hard with a baby.

5.  Just Dance ABBA - if you can't get to the gym, and you have a Wii, this game will have you sweating.  Its fun and learn some new moves too!

Amazon

6. Anything the baby "made" - Pinterest is full of ideas for hand prints and footprints.  Get some paint and slap those tootsies on something cute!

7.  Baby's Birthstone jewelry - something simple she can wear everyday to remind her of her little one.  It will put a smile on her face.  I like these...

Bullet Birthstone Bracelet - Jewelmint  $30

Etsy $38

Etsy $34

8.  Baby's Name or Initial Jewelry - for an even more personal touch.

Etsy $29

Jewelmint  $52

Tiffany  $150

C Wonder $48

9.  Go the F*ck to Sleep or You Have to F*cking Eat Book - You know you've thought it once or twice.  Hell, you might have even said it, I don't know.  It was written for parents, by a parent.  Enjoy and relate.

Amazon $12

Amazon $12

10. Uggs - I know they're a big fashion faux pas, but I don't care.  They are warm, comfy and easy.  And I think they're cute.  I'm currently lusting after this pair...

Dillards $250

Cheers!

Women of Influence

This picture is very special to me.  It was sent to me from MI as a "we miss you" message.  I love this picture because it includes all the women that helped me become who I am today.  Each one of them has taught me something important and I can't imagine not having them around.  They are fabulous, strong, intelligent women and I am privileged to know them.

Cheers to you ladies!

Kimmy (BFF), my Aunt Karen, Ma Large (Kimmy's mom) and my mom.  Maddy's in the middle.
